Brand of the Year 2024: Vibia Lighting

Founded in 1987, the Barcelona-based brand Vibia Lighting has established itself over the years as a leading force in the international design scene. Much of this success can be attributed to the efforts of its dedicated designers such as Stefan Diez (Diez Office), Sebastian Herkner, Arik Levy, Lievore Altherr Molina and the Note Design Studio. But what sets Vibia apart is the vision of its CEO and owner, Pere Llonch, who, together with his team, has paved the way with a distinctly ambitious energy that has fueled their groundbreaking efforts in creating innovative design concepts and their consistent exploration and use of LED technology in new and creative ways, freeing it from the outdated concepts of lampshades and other utilitarian constraints. Light becomes a functional phenomenon in itself, with the light source receding into the background, allowing the luminaire body or diffuser to come to the fore, transforming it into a compelling sculpture - as seen in designs such as Guise, a weightless glass light cylinder by Diez Office, or Toan Nguyen's Algorithm for it's Pendant Lighting System, to name just two.

Jury Statement

“The jury of the ICONIC AWARDS 2024: Interior Products awards the title of "Brand of the Year" to Vibia Lighting for its outstanding commitment and understanding of decorative lighting. Not only by combining sensory experience with the latest technological advances, but also by doing so in a unique and somewhat revolutionary way. It is this consistent effort that has earned the Spanish lighting company its place in the competitive lighting market. Thanks to their modular approach to design and meticulous manufacturing at their headquarters near Barcelona, they are able to customize a wide variety of lighting collections for specific projects, giving their designs a high degree of versatility, allowing them to be installed compactly as spot lighting, but also arranged expansively and reorganized according to changing needs. Vibia Lighting also expresses a clear commitment to responsible consumption, with a focus on timelessness in terms of product life and the conscious use of materials and components designed to be repairable and recyclable.“
